The Age of (mis)Information
The phrase “information at your fingertips,” used to be a cliché. Not any more. If anything, we have information overflow. Welcome to the age of Information – or make that Misinformation!
Nowadays, we can google for anything under the sun. Just by typing in the some key words, we can pull out hundreds, even thousands, of articles on any subject matter from astrology to zoology. But that’s not to say that everything we read is factually correct!
I was looking at a website and was taken up by its attractive design and “global company” looks. And their product prices were reasonable. For such a distinguished Company it was good value for money, I thought.
Then a friend of mine did some razzmatazz on his computer and pointed out to me that the website had low hits and was not as popular or dynamic as it made itself out to be.
It’s scary to think that many people using the Internet are not truly computer savvy. These people could easily fall prey to charlatan types making all sorts of claims on their websites that may be less than true.
Seeing is believing? What you see is what you get? No so, these days – we cannot take things for granted anymore!
I don’t want to sound cynical, but what we are seeing on the Internet may actually be illusions! The company with the impressive looking website may actually be a one-man operations run from the back room of his apartment. There’s nothing wrong with being a one-man operations working from your back room per se. What is wrong is telling untruths and causing misperceptions.
The point is that on the Internet, demarcation lines are blurred. We have to learn how to differentiate between right and wrong, true and false, facts and opinions.

You are absolutely right. In my opinion these days 90% people on Internet are looking to dig hole in your pocket. If you have not done homework, you are gone.
